Would you bring a loved one out of a nursing home?
With COVID-19 in Nursing Homes and spreading within the community in Ireland, the government are busy rolling out restrictive measures to curtail public gatherings, school closures and retail closures in multiple sectors. But what about our Nursing Homes?
They are busy getting their hands on more PPE for our frontline staff, setting up new testing centres and working on test turnaround times, however in the midst of their efferents to curtail the virus it seems the COVID-19 is silently spreading through nursing homes all over Ireland and very little been done to stop it.
It seems nursing homes not just in Ireland are being hit hard by the coronavirus.
Irish nursing homes, where 25,000 people live and 30,000 people work, have become the most active ‘hotspots’ for the coronavirus pandemic in Ireland.
By Thursday, April 30th, 60% of all the COVID-19 deaths in the state occurred in community residential settings. The elderly are among the most vulnerable when it comes to this virus and a nursing home in the Phoenix Park in Dublin is one of the worst affected.
Nursing homes are reporting a shortage in staff numbers, due to healthcare workers having to take sick leave or having to self isolate due to exposure to the virus.
So if you have a loved one in a nursing home in Ireland, would you consider bringing them home to protect and care for them?
No doubt this has been a topic of discussion in many families, particularly, as it is not even possible to visit loved ones now due to visiting restrictions and lockdown measure.
If you have a loved one in a Nursing home and you are considering bringing them home, one of the many factors you will need to keep in mind is how suitable your home is for them, particularly if they have mobility issues.
You may have to consider a Stairlift or other house adaptations such as bathroom conversions, but all this is possible and can be done quickly and it’s what we do here at KCH Stairlifts.
Remember, you may also be eligible for a mobility aid grant or house adaptation grant to help you fund the changes you need to undertake, so get in touch with us and talk to us about the mobility requirements of your loved ones, were here to help.
